Garden restoration costs

A one-off garden clean-up and restoration suits an established garden that needs attention: hedge shaping, shrub pruning, weeding, feeding, mulch or replacing tired plants. Tell David which areas matter most and what you want to keep.

A first substantial restoration of a neglected garden is a larger job. Dense overgrowth, more green waste and replanting can mean considerably more work than a smaller visit. Its typical $3,000 to $10,000 budget should not be confused with the price of a light tidy-up.

Our garden restoration page explains the work and shows the kind of change it can make.

A garden clean-up is priced for the work involved, not simply the time since the last visit. Ask whether hedge and shrub pruning, weeding, fresh mulch and green waste removal are included. Council-approved tree work, new beds or a new lawn may need a separate scope. Absolute quotes after looking at the garden; these budgets are not a flat clean-up fee.

Garden makeover costs

If you want new beds, different planting or a new lawn, our garden makeover service is a better starting point. A small garden makeover of up to 50 m² typically costs $5,000 to $15,000, including GST. The area is only a guide: what comes out, what stays and what goes in determine the work.

See the garden makeover price guide for the larger budget ranges and finished examples. For beds, planting and lawn planned together across a new or existing garden, our general landscaping price guide explains those project budgets.

What changes a gardening quote?

  • Condition: dense overgrowth and established weeds take more work than beds that have recently been looked after.
  • Hedges and shrubs: height, length, species and the amount of cutting back affect the job.
  • Access: steps, narrow passages and a long carry affect how materials and waste move through the property.
  • Waste: an overgrown garden can produce much more material than its ground area suggests.
  • New materials: plant sizes and quantities, mulch and soil preparation change the total.
  • Retaining existing plants: careful work around plants you want to keep differs from clearing the entire space.

Hourly rates or a price for the job?

An hourly figure alone does not tell you the total cost. Check how many people are working, how much time is allowed and whether plants, mulch, travel and waste removal are included. A low rate can still result in a higher total if it excludes work or materials you need.

Absolute provides a free on-site quote for the agreed work. The ranges here are job budgets, not hourly rates or fixed prices for every garden. Compare quotes against the same areas, tasks, materials and clean-up arrangements.

Real garden work to compare

Our Ryde photo collection shows a front garden cleared and replanted with new beds and timber edging. It combines clearing with new elements, rather than simply trimming the existing plants.

Make the budget go further

Tell David the outcome that matters most: reclaiming a path, cutting back a boundary or restoring the whole garden. Keep suitable plants, agree the areas to tackle first and discuss replacement plants before work starts. A staged approach may suit your budget, but each stage still needs its own agreed scope.
